Historical note |
During the 1920s, radios began to be mass produced and they became accessible to a wide audience. One of the pioneering radio stations in Nashville was WSM. It was owned by the National Life and Accident Insurance Company, which sold cheap life insurance to working class blacks and whites. The station became very popular with the introduction of the "Grand Ole Opry' radio show that featured hillbilly and country music. |
