Historical note |
This is the courthouse where the famous "Scopes Trial" was held in 1925. The trial was also known as the "Monkey Trial." John Scopes, a high school biology teacher, had been charged with illegally teaching the theory of evolution. The courtroom in which; the trial took place was the largest trial courtroom in Tennessee, with seats for more than 500 persons. |
