Clarence Darrow, the defense attroney, arrived in Dayton on July 9, 1925. Darrow created media opportunities whenever possible. In this scene, staged for news photographers, Darrow greets John Scopes upon Darrow's arrival in Dayton. Scopes' local; attorney, John R. Neal of Knoxville, a supporter of teaching evolution, leans between Scopes and Darrow. Scopes had actually met Darrow in New York City and Dayton prior to the trial. |
