Hansford James, son of John James and Nancy Smyth, born November 3, 1822, died March 23, 1883. Married Mary Melvina Bell, January 12, 1854. Hansford James served in the War Between the States under General Robert E. Lee's command. Captured at the Battle of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, July 1863, and remained in prison at Camp Chase, Ohio until end of war. Confederate Records in Archives Division of the Library of Virginia. Photograph has been altered (possibly charcoal, lower portion intentionally faded) |
