Cased ambrotype of Samuel A. Whiteside, Co. B, 48th Tenn. Inf. (Voorhies') Regt., CSA. Whiteside, a native of Mt. Pleasant, Tenn., was captured at Fort Donelson and sent to Johnson's Island Prison (Ohio). He was paroled, returned to his unit, and was recaptured at Port Hudson (Louisiana). He was sent back to Johnson's Island where he remained until the end of the war. |
