Description |
This oath bore the name and mark of Wm. (William) Hodge of Giles County, Tenn. Hodge was described as 5-foot-4 with a light complexion, grey hair and blue eyes. Hodge swore to "faithfully support, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" and abide by acts of Congress "passed during the existing rebellion with reference to slaves." The oath was sworn before 1st Lt. Benjamin F. Price, 148th Ind. Inf. Regt., USA. |
