Lewis S. Hodge swore to "support, protect, and defend the Constitution and Government of the United States against all enemies" when he signed this oath. The document described Hodge as being 6-foot-0, with a light complexion, dark hair, and blue eyes. Hodge was a citizen rather than a soldier, and the words related to service in the "Rebel army" are crossed out. The document was also signed by Capt. Charles D. Coleman, Assistant Provost Marshal General. |
