James (Jimmy) Hammond wearing slouch hat and holding a flintlock musket converted to percussion. Hammond was born September 23, 1841, in Gibson County, Tenn. He was the son of John K. and Elizabeth Boyd Hammond. According to family legend, Jimmy fought for the South during the Civil War. He married Juda (also listed as Judy or Julie) Harrison on July 7, 1866, in Gibson County. Juda was a widow, and her daughter, Morning Texanna Harrison, married James Hammond's brother, Joseph Carroll Hammond. |
