Photographic reprint of elderly veteran, Alfred Mathews Cleveland and an unknown child. Cleveland served as a private in Co. E, 1st Tenn. Cav. Regt., CSA. He is seated in a cane-backed chair with his legs crossed. The child stands behind him. Cleveland died in 1911 in Grainger County, Tenn. He enlisted in October 1861 and fought in the Battle of Mill Springs, Ky. Cleveland was wounded by a minie ball to the elbow and captured. He was moved to Chattanooga, Tenn., where he was immediately paroled. |
