Silver spoon that belonged to the Thornton family of Barnesville, Georgia. According to family legend, the spoon was part of a set that was buried to prevent Gen. Sherman and his troops from taking it. The silver was distributed among family members after the war. This spoon was given to Elizabeth Thornton, wife of John Marshall Akin. The spoon is stamped "Rogers & Bro." |
