Historical note |
Alexander McDowell McCook was a Federal general in the Civil War who served at the battles of Bull Run, Stones River, and Chickamauga. He also commanded the "Defenses of the Potomac River and Washington" and served in Arkansas. After the war he became commandant of the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and served on a commission investigating the U. S. War Department after the Spanish-American War. |
