Historical note |
The Federal Army, fresh from its victory at Fort Donelson, occupied Nashville in February 1862. Andrew Johnson was appointed military governor a month later. Nashville remained in Union hands for the duration of the war. James Fowler Rusling, an attorney in civilian life, was 3rd Corps Quartermaster, promoted to Inspector of the Quartermaster Department of the U.S. |
