Unfinished forage house in Nashville, Tennessee, with a group of officers of the Quartermaster Department. An inscription beneath the photograph reads, "Forage House on N. and NW. RR. Nashville, Tenn. - DIMENSIONS. 1st Sec 904 by 156 ft wide; 2d Sec 805 by 112 ft wide Only 201ft 2d finished leaving 604 ft in an unfinished state. FRONT VIEW EAST Group of Officers QMDept Nashville." |
Historical note |
A forage house was used to store hay and oats for the Army's horses and mules. The Quartermaster Corps is responsible for keeping equipment and supplies functioning and available to the officers and their troops, and transporting supplies to new locations as needed. |
