Historical note |
Gordon Browning served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for six terms, beginning in 1922. He was Governor of Tennessee, 1937-1939 and 1949-1953. After losing the nomination to Frank Clement in 1952, he retired from active politics. Prentice Cooper served in the Tennessee House and Senate before becoming Governor, holding that post from 1939-1945. He was U.S. Ambassador to Peru from 1946-1948. |
