O Cousin TOad,
I fear that we
this time, you have committed a
price of coquetish frivolty_
vulgarly speaking_ by getting "mad,"
unless you have learned something of
my indisposition, for the past four or five
weeks your letter came to hand about
a week after I had taken sick but I
was unable to read it for some two
weeks. My disease was Pneumonia of the
most malignant character. I had intended
going to Blountville to day but
I am yet too weak to ride. I will go
down next week if I continue to
regain my strength as fast whereto-
fore. I want you to put on your pretiest
smile, and give me your sweetist kiss and
an affirmation answer to those questions, when
