Historical Note |
Nashville was occupied by Union troops shortly after Fort Donelson fell on February 16 , 1862. The city remained occupied throughout the rest of the war. The Battle of Nashville (December 15-16, 1864), was the last in a string of defeats for Confederate general John Bell Hood and his Army of Tennessee and was essentially the last major battle in the Western Theater. |
