Mark Twain Hotel
Title |
Mark Twain Hotel |
Description |
The Mark Twain Hotel in Jamestown, Tennessee. The hotel is a two-story building with a veranda/balcony on the first and second floors. A row of cars is parked in front of the building and a house can be seen in the background. The site is identified as the place York and the Warner Brothers filmmakers stayed during their meetings to research the film, "Sergeant York." |
Historical Note |
Fentress County was Alvin York's home county. This photo was taken during meetings between York and Hollywood producers related to a proposed film, "Sergeant York" based on his World War I exploits. Photographer was Albert Franklin Ganier Sr., who captured photos of the meeting between York and Warner Brothers filmmakers as they researched the film. Mark Twain never lived in Jamestown but referred to it in his writings, frequently calling it "Obedstown" after the nearby Obeds River. |
