Small document serving as a military pass allowing the bearer, Mrs. Hannah M. (Herrick) Morey, to travel through Union lines to Franklin, Tennessee, and return. The pass was authorized by Brig. Gen. John Franklin Miller and issued at the Provost Marshal's Office at Nashville, Tennessee. |
Historical note |
Hannah Herrick Morey was the wife of the Rev. Ira Morey and the mother of James Marsh Morey. In 1858, she and her family arrived in Franklin, Tennessee, where her husband served as minister of the Presbyterian church. She traveled to the Union prison at Hart's Island, New York, in 1865 in a futile attempt to obtain freedom for her son. |
