Historical note |
Oxen often were used as draft animals in the 19th century South. They supplied much of the power associated with agriculture and loading and unloading cargo-laden steamboats. They were used to haul heavy loads, plow fields, and remove stumps and rocks. Draft animals were used for farming and hauling in Mesopotamia as early as 3000 B.C. |
