Historical Note |
Opothele-Yoholo was born at Tuckabatchee, Creek Nation (in Alabama), the son of a white father and a Native-American mother. He was an important figure in Creek political affairs; during the winter of 1824-1825, he opposed the sale of Creek land to the; government of Georgia. He resisted removal to the west, but in 1836, was nonetheless obligated to lead 15,000 of his people to the Indian Territory in the west. Opothele-Yoholo was also involved in Civil War battles against the Confederate forces. |
