Description
Announcement of fund-raising fiddling and banjo picking contest to raise money for the Leonidas Polk Bivouac No. 3 , and William Henry Trousdale Camp No. 495 of Confederate Veterans and for "indigent and decrepit Confederate Soldiers. " There is notation of a parade to be led by the Columbia Band , the program listings , and the prizes available . A color image of a Confederate flag has been placed at the top of the broadside .
Historical Note
Broadside indicates the financial need becoming evident among Tennessee's aging and ailing generation of Confederate veterans . Legislation establishing the Tennessee Board of Pension Examiners was enacted in 1891 to handle the administration of pensions for the state's indigent , disabled , and honorably discharged Confederate veterans . Confederate widows ' pensions were first issued in Tennessee in 1905 .
