The sarcophagus of Roman Emperor Severus Alexander which Commodore J. D. Elliott, United States Navy had brought to America. Commodore Elliott offered this sarcophagus to Andrew Jackson as a coffin, but he graciously declined. This etching was provided through the courtesy of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D. C. |
