Rural Record orchards and gardens
Title |
Rural Record orchards and gardens |
Description |
Articles from the "Orchards and Garden" section of the inaugural, March 10, 1882, issue of the "Rural Record" conveying the emphasis placed on the growth of fruit in the state of Tennessee during this time period. On this page, comparisions are made with California fruit growing, and a case is made for the excellent setting for fruit growing in the Lookout Mountain area. |
Historical Note |
The agricultural journal known as the Rural Record originated with this March 10, 1882, issue. Its target audience was to be the farmer, planter and stock raiser, and their families; thus, there were features that appealed to children and housewives as well. The company that published this journal was headed by Adolph S. Ochs, the businessman who cut his teeth on Chattanooga newspapers, later acquired the New York Times, and helped establish modern American journalism. |
