Historical Note |
Troost (1776-1850) was born in Holland and came to the United States in 1810. Two years later he became the founding president of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. After moving to Maryland and Indiana, Troost settled in Nashville in 1827 and operated the Nashville Museum of Natural History from 1827 through 1832. He served as Tennessee's state geologist from 1831 to his death in 1850. His principal employmen ;, however, was the professorship of science at the University of Nashville. |
