Historical note
Arras , France , was greatly damaged by German bombardments early in the Great War . British writer Arnold Bennett visited the site and wrote extensively about the ruins in his book "Over There; War Scenes on the Western Front " published around 1915 . He; wrote that "Arras Cathedral is the most majestic and striking ruin at the Front . It is superlatively well placed on an eminence by itself , and its dimensions are tremendous…The pale simplicity of its enormous lines and surfaces renders it better suited
