Boche soldiers
Title
Boche soldiers
Description
Several decomposing bodies of slain German soldiers are pictured strewn across a battlefield in the Roye (Oise) region of France .
Historical note
"Boche " is a derogatory trench slang term used by the French (and sometimes borrowed by the British) to refer to Germans . As such World War I idioms go , this designation was considered particularly offensive to the Germans , for it carried with it implications of obstinacy and uncivilized nature . It is possible that this photo reflects the Oise-Aisne Offensive , August 18-September 16 , 1918 . This was one of the three distinct parts of the Second Battle of the Marne that proved a turning point of War .
