Historical note
Georges Clemenceau , born September 28 , 1841 , was a French statesman , physician and journalist . In November , 1917 , he was asked to form a government where he served as prime minister , as well as Minister of War . He became very popular at home and with the French troops due to his many visits to the trenches . He supported the policy of total war , including victory with justice , loyalty to the fighting men , and immediate and sever punishment of crimes against France . He died November 24 , 1929 .
