Description
Group of about ten soldiers at the south end of the Hindenburg Tunnel where the St . de Quentin Canal ran through , east of Bellicourt , France . The photograph was taken from the interior of the tunnel and the soldiers are shown walking across planking ; over the canal .
Historical note
The inscription on the back of the photograph indicates that American troops encountered a German machine gun barrage at this site .
