Historical Note
The Battle of Saratoga was a Revolutionary War battle that took place in upstate New York on Oct . 10 , 1777 . Led by British General John Burgoyne , an invading army from Canada was surrounded by American troops south of Saratoga , New York . Two battles were fought and on October 17 , Burgoyne surrendered .
